About Me

Hi! Welcome to my website! My name is Alyssa Del Campo, and I am a Senior at Florida International University. I am majoring in Psychology. I also have a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Florida Gulf Coast University. I am very grateful for this opportunity to travel with FIU on a Global Health Study Abroad research focused experience. I know I will have the chance to immerse myself in the Indian culture and broaden my perspective.
One of my future goals is to attend graduate school to conduct research in Psychology. I am most interested in exploring holistic approaches, such as mindfulness meditation, yoga, and spirituality as a way to promote well-being and a way to treat mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety as well.
Yoga originated in India, and a certain type of yoga, Ashtanga, was developed in Mysore. Knowing how prevalent yoga and meditation is in India, I applied and was selected to participate in the 2018 Global Health Study Abroad program offered through the FIU Department of Psychology. Join me on my journey through Mysore, India. During my time there, I will write research critiques dealing with my focus of interest.
Upon returning from Mysore, I intend to graduate in the summer with my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. My experiences in India will certainly help prepare me for graduate studies and help me gain more knowledge on holistic approaches to health. I plan to apply for graduate school in Psychology in the fall.
